Caramel Apple Cookies and Cookie Cutter

Do you know Georganne of LilaLoa? She is one of my favorites! She is super creative and shares her fun ideas in the cookie community. I got to meet her at CookieCon. I was beyond nervous. I'll never forget it. I was basically whining just a few minutes earlier that I had seen all my favorites and was having the best time of my life, EXCEPT that I hadn't found Georganne yet. Literally a couple minutes later, I saw her in the vending area. The funny thing is, that with so much to see in the vending area, it took me a second to register that it was her and I'll never forget the expression on her face. She recognized me! Me?! Isn't that just insane! She jumped up and gave me a big hug. I got to talk to her for a few minutes and get a photo of her. Then I went to her class session and she is calm and easy going speaking in front of all these people and did I mention she was like 8 or 9 months pregnant? Absolutely incredible. She is such a cutie. Georganne came up with this caramel apple recipe and I was so excited to try it out.

I made this caramel apple cookie cutter with a nice grouping of extra caramel at the bottom :-) Cookie cutter available HERE
On the first batch of caramel apple cookies, I followed Georganne's recipe. I had to go to several stores before I found the Green Apple Kool-Aid.
I made another batch last night (that I haven't baked yet) and this time I didn't use the Kool-Aid mix and instead used Apple Extract in the cookie dough. On both of them, I added electric green Americolor gel to color the dough.
I like the colored dough
After they were baked, I outlined my design
You could leave half the cookie without icing since the cookie is already colored apple green, but I like icing on my cookies, so I decided to flavor the green icing also. Since the caramel packet was really brown, I knew that would be hard to make green, so for the green icing, I flavored it with caramel extract instead. The caramel extract is very dark also so instead of a lime green color, it was a bit darker than I wanted, but it still worked fine for the green icing.

For the brown icing, I added the caramel flavor packet to my icing.
I finished the cookies off with a gold color stick.
Then I decided I wanted to package some of them up with sticks so they would look like real caramel apples. I never bake cookies with sticks. Here are the supplies needed. Cookie bag, popsicle stick, shipping tape, cookie.
Put the stick on the back of the bag in a strong section of the cookie and cut off a piece of shipping tape over the stick.
Then wrap a pretty bow around the stick just above the cookie stem.
Wa-la. They look pretty real huh.
The apple flavoring in the cookie had a strong tart apple flavor. You won't mistake the flavor. I made more of the cookie dough last night but with apple extract to see how those come out too. I had hoped to make these in October before Halloween, but it didn't work out, so I'm glad that I finally got to try them out Thank you Georganne for sharing your fun recipe!

Italy and Food They Go Together - Cookies and Cookie Cutters

There is an Italian saying: Chi va a letto senza cena tutta la notte si dimena. - Italian proverb.

Translation: He who goes to bed without eating, will regret it throughout the night. It is impossible to think of Italy without thinking of delicious Italian food. I've never been to Italy, but I had a customer ask me to make a whole bunch of Italian themed cookies for her Father's birthday party. I actually made these a very long time ago and am finally getting them posted on my blog!

Bring A Truck To Get Your Tree - Christmas Cookies & Cutters

We get a Christmas tree the first weekend of December each year. We used to have a fake tree, but hubby always seemed to have trouble with it and our son likes having a real tree. Hubby has a 1963  Chevy truck. It used to be his grandpa's truck. It takes up about 3/4 of our garage. Seriously. If you ever WANT to feel like the fattest person on the planet, just try to get by that big monstrous truck while carrying two cycling bags. It can't be done without banging into the truck. So much for having a usable garage. Anyway, hubby loves that truck. So last year I made him truck cookies with a Christmas tree in the back. He loved them.
