Get Outta Here and Go For A Hike

Several years ago, before I got my bicycle, I used to hike the hill near my house. It is about 7 miles long and really steep. I went to the podiatrist one time and the doctor took one look at my black toes and she said "you hike the SCV hill". I guess the blackened toes was a common issue for those that hike this hill. I rarely hike anymore as I prefer to be on my bike, but a good friend of mine loves to hike and she goes to many different and interesting places. She invited me to come along, so I made her some fun hiking boot cookies. I added in chocolate candy rocks to the bag with the hiking boot on top. I loved how they turned out!

I love this hiking boot cookie cutter and how fun the cookie turned out. You can get the cookie cutter HERE
Notice that I outlined a jagged edge to the bottom of the hiking boot. This is optional of course, but I thought it made it look like a real hiking boot.
I found these chocolate rock candies at a few stores and they gave such a realistic look for hiking
Cookies bagged up with the "rocks". How fun!

The trail my friend, Susan, took me to ended up being a place that I've ridden my bike up. But I never knew that back behind the spot we normally stop at, has some hiking trails that go up into beautiful areas! I had so much fun!

So do you like to hike? Do you wear tennis shoes or hiking boots?

Bicycle Cookies for A Bike Club

I'm sitting here with a steaming cup of hot cocoa. Did you know that chocolate is good for muscle recovery? I just got back from a bike ride and I'm freezing. I have one of those Keurig coffee machines that make one cup at a time. But I don't drink coffee. Ever. Even if I'm up working on cookies until 4am, no coffee. I figured out that coffee makes my heart go a little bonkers. It actually feels like my heart is going to jump out of my chest. So, no coffee ever. I'm hyper enough as it is. But I have a Keurig. Why, you ask. For hot cocoa. Just for hot cocoa. Weird huh. You would think I'm a chocolate fiend, but I don't even like chocolate. Well, except for Georganne's chocolate cookies. But a steaming cup of hot cocoa after a bike ride... yum. You can feel the heat going down into your stomach and it warms you up quickly. I know, I know, I should be a tea drinker. But yuck. Don't even get me started on tea. I made these bicycle cookies for my bike club that was having their end of year party.

I made this bicycle sign for in my office. I love it!

So do you start your day with coffee? Do you drink hot cocoa after a good work-out? I highly recommend it. Supposedly it helps to recover muscles. Good excuse right?

Rain, Hail, Snow - in California!

I went for a bike ride one day and thoroughly checked the weather report before I went. It said 10% chance of rain late in the afternoon. So I went early enough that I would be fine. I got about 25 miles from my house and felt the first sprinkle. I thought it was fine. Well within a matter of seconds, the sprinkles turned to HARD RAIN and that hard rain then turned into HAIL, huge hail, something like I've never seen before. I've heard of hail and major storms coming on within a moment's notice in parts of Texas. I've never seen anything like this in California. It was intense! I did everything I could to just hold a straight line and get to shelter. The hail and hard rain was pelting my bare legs so hard that my legs turned bright red like someone was repeatedly slapping me with all their might. I could barely see directly in front of me with how hard the downpour was. Everything was flooding in a moment's notice. There was absolutely nowhere for me to go. It took me forever to go just a mile or so since I couldn't see and I was worried that my bike (with skinny tires) would fall over. I got to the first part of civilization that I could find which had a 4-way stop and a small fruit stand. There was nothing else within miles. I stood at that 4-way stop and pulled out my phone to call my husband. I saw that he had already called numerous times to find me. I was standing under huge power lines, but honestly there just wasn't anywhere else to go. Suddenly I heard someone screaming and whistling to get my attention. It was the owner of the fruit stand. He was waving me in. They brought me to their office where all the workers were standing huddled around a heater. I apologized for dripping all over their floor and thanked them profusely for saving me. They were just the nicest people ever. My husband came and got me and drove me and my bike home. As we were driving, I saw the most amazing site. Snow. Seriously?! The entire hills near our house were covered in snow in just those few minutes that the storm came on. Keep in mind that we are in the Bay Area of California. We don't get snow. Well it turned out that it really wasn't snow. It was hail, LOTS and LOTS of hail. So I made cookies for my saviors at the fruit stand.

I made a bunch of rainy day cookies for the farm stand people that saved me from that ice storm.

This is the picture that was on our local news from the incredible ice/hail/snow storm! This all came on within a moment's notice!
I took this photo as my husband was quickly driving me home. I was shaking from being frozen through and through. The ice was everywhere in our area.

Boxer Dogs Are The Best

Just a quick post today to share some Boxer dog cookies that I made for a friend that watched our sweet pup while we were out of town. It is raining here today so that means no bike ride. All the chores are done. My office is a mess and I have business taxes to do, but it's Saturday, so I'm designating it as a PLAY DAY. My niece delivered her twin boys yesterday and I have fun ideas of things to make for her and other family, so that is my priority today. Play, play, play. What are you doing with your weekend?

This is our rescue pup, Kobe. We feel so blessed to have him as part of our family and thankful to the foster families and the NorCal Boxer Rescue that cared for him until we were able to become his forever family.
So what is YOUR favorite kind of dog?
